The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has summoned officials of Risen Sacco following a fatal crash involving the popular matatu Detat along Enterprise Road in Nairobi's Industrial Area.
The move comes as authorities seek answers over an accident that left at least five people dead and several others injured, sparking renewed concerns about safety standards in the public transport sector.

The crash occurred on the evening of June 3 near the Dar es Salaam Roundabout. Witnesses said the matatu, a well-known fixture in Nairobi's vibrant nganya culture, overturned after losing control along the busy roadway.
Emergency responders, including the Kenya Red Cross, arrived at the scene and assisted in rescuing victims trapped inside the wreckage. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment while police secured the area and launched investigations.
Focus Turns to Sacco Management
NTSA said the summons forms part of ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The authority is seeking information from Sacco officials regarding the vehicle's operations, compliance records and oversight mechanisms.
The regulator noted that transport operators are responsible for ensuring that vehicles are roadworthy and that drivers adhere to traffic regulations at all times.
“The Authority has summoned the concerned officials as investigations into the incident continue,” NTSA said in a statement.
Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle may have been travelling at high speed before the accident, although investigators have yet to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the crash.
Renewed Scrutiny of Road Safety
The tragedy has once again cast a spotlight on safety in the country's public service vehicle sector, particularly among matatus operating on busy urban routes.
Road safety stakeholders have frequently raised concerns about speeding, reckless driving and failure to observe traffic regulations, factors that continue to contribute to road crashes across the country.
According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority, thousands of Kenyans are killed or seriously injured in road accidents each year, with human error remaining one of the leading causes of crashes.
Transport authorities have urged PSV operators, drivers and passengers to observe safety measures and comply with existing regulations as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, families affected by the accident continue to mourn their loved ones as investigators work to determine accountability and establish the full circumstances surrounding the deadly crash.
