Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru  celebrated the marriage of her eldest son, Ian Njuguna Waiguru, after he married Joanne Rodriguez in Naivasha.

The couple exchanged vows on Saturday, August 29, in a garden wedding attended by President William Ruto, governors, MPs, family and friends.
The ceremony brought together several prominent political figures, with Ruto among the guests who witnessed the couple begin their married life.

Waiguru’s message to the newlyweds

A day after the celebrations, Waiguru took to social media to congratulate her son and daughter-in-law.
“My heart is full. Congratulations, Joanne and Ian, on your wedding! Wishing you a lifetime of love, laughter, and endless happiness together. Mum.”
Her short message quickly drew attention online, with Kenyans filling the comments with congratulatory messages and questions about the high-profile ceremony.
Some users celebrated the family milestone, while others used the comments section to ask questions about the guests at the wedding.

Ruto’s message to Njuguna and Joanne

President Ruto also congratulated the couple, urging them to build their marriage around friendship, patience and mutual support.

“May you build a strong and happy home, grow together through every season of life, and find in each other enduring friendship, strength and companionship.”

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga was also present. She described it as an honour to witness Njuguna, the son of her colleague, marry Joanne and wished the couple a lifetime of happiness.

A year of weddings for the Waiguru family

Njuguna’s wedding comes after several marriage milestones in the Waiguru family this year.
The couple had already celebrated their engagement and traditional marriage ceremonies before the white wedding.

Njuguna’s younger brother Don also held his Ngurario traditional wedding with his partner Yvonne in July.
Njuguna is the son of Governor Waiguru, who has served as Kirinyaga governor since 2017.He has built a career in technology and entrepreneurship and was among the co-founders of fintech company Fingo Africa in 2020.

Kenyans React 

The governor’s message attracted reactions from Kenyans, with many congratulating the newlyweds while others brought their own observations and questions to the comment section.
Tina Tamara wrote:
“Congratulations and thanks for tagging all mama and baba mbogas.”
Lucy Kinyua also sent her blessings to the couple and Waiguru’s family.
“Congratulations to your beautiful children; your home is blessed. Happy marriage settlement and God bless your union. Amen, great blessing, Anne Waiguru.”
Sarah Kiarie, however, took the opportunity to ask about another prominent figure.
“So the father, Uhuru, did not attend; why?”
The comment appeared to reference former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was not among the high-profile guests publicly highlighted from the ceremony.
