East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga has expressed frustration after Kenya Airways cancelled her flight as she travelled home for her late father Raila Odinga's first death anniversary.

Winnie was expected to return to Kenya ahead of the memorial events scheduled for Thursday, 15 October, marking one year since the former prime minister died while receiving medical treatment in India.

On Wednesday, 14 October, she shared a screenshot of a notification showing that her Kenya Airways flight had been cancelled.

The politician accompanied the screenshot with a pointed message directed at the national carrier.
"One day we will have a talk about this airline," she wrote.

The cancellation raised questions about whether Winnie would make it back to the country in time to join her family and other mourners at the memorial service in Bondo, Siaya County.

Winnie remembers her late father.

Shortly after sharing the flight cancellation notification, Winnie posted a photograph of a lit candle on her social media account.

She captioned the image with a single word: "Dad."

The post came as the Odinga family and Kenyans prepared to mark the first anniversary of Raila's death.

The former prime minister died on 15 October 2025 while receiving medical treatment in India, aged 80.

His death sparked an outpouring of grief across the country, with thousands of Kenyans attending events held in his honour.

Winnie, who was among the family members who accompanied her father during his final days in India, has previously spoken about the difficulty of losing him.

In a recent reflection on the experience of bringing his body back to Kenya, she described the journey as the hardest thing she had ever done.
