Nairobi CBD turned into a powerful sea of unity and resistance as thousands of Gen Z protesters were joined by some of Kenya’s most influential political and cultural figures during the 2025 demonstrations — marking the solemn anniversary of last year’s deadly anti-Finance Bill protests.

Thunderous cheers echoed through the city streets as prominent personalities walked shoulder-to-shoulder with young demonstrators demanding justice, accountability, and remembrance for those who lost their lives one year ago.
Among the notable faces spotted in the crowd were Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Former Chief Justice David Maraga, and celebrated rapper-entrepreneur King Kaka — all met with applause and admiration from protestors.

Adding weight to the moment, CNN’s Larry Madowo, who flew into the country specifically to cover the nationwide protests, was seen on the ground capturing the movement live, reinforcing the global spotlight on Kenya’s youth-led revolution.

Also joining the movement were music producer and DJ Parroty, as well as opposition stalwarts Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa, whose presence further solidified the seriousness and cross-generational support of the march.
But perhaps the most moving sight was that of everyday Kenyans trekking on foot after major roads to the city center were blocked, showing their unwavering commitment to the cause. They came to honor the fallen, to demand answers, and to declare that this generation will not forget.
As crowds grew larger by the hour, tensions began to rise. Police responded with tear gas in several areas, attempting to disperse peaceful protesters. But the momentum, fueled by grief, solidarity, and resilience, showed no signs of stopping.
