Yesterday, June 18, 2025, Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda addressed the media with a measured tone, emphasizing safety and order for the upcoming June 25 protests, which mark the anniversary of the deadly 2024 anti-Finance Bill demonstrations.
Acknowledging the protests’ significance as a memorial for Kenya’s Generation Z, who faced heavy losses last year, Seda assured the public of robust security measures.
“We will provide ample security to ensure all participants and bystanders remain safe,” he stated, noting enhanced plans to maintain peace.

Seda confirmed that activists formally notified the Central Police Station of their intent to mobilize, framing the event as a national remembrance.
However, he issued a stern warning against violence, referencing the chaotic June 12 protests where clashes erupted with masked officers.
“We urge peaceful demonstrations to honor the fallen with dignity, without infringing on others’ rights,” he said, addressing concerns about disruptions on a weekday.
Amid accusations of police collusion with hired goons during the June 17 protests, sparked by the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in custody, Seda denied claims of misconduct, asserting officers acted lawfully.
Posts on X, however, expressed skepticism, with some alleging police protected rogue actors. Seda noted that officers will use riot gear and rubber bullets, not live ammunition, to manage crowds, though close-range use of rubber bullets risks injury.
