Ebola: Symptoms to watch for/ROSA MUMANYI

Kenya officially announced its first case of Ebola on October 6, 2026, following the death of a patient who had recently travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The Ministry of Health announced four additional cases on Saturday, October 17, bringing renewed attention to efforts to detect and contain the virus.

According to health reports, the first patient arrived in the country on October 3, was subsequently admitted to hospital and died on October 5.

In response to the developments, health authorities are raising public awareness about the critical symptoms associated with the virus to promote early detection and containment.

Key symptoms to watch for include fever, severe weakness, fatigue, headaches and muscle pain. Individuals may also experience abdominal pain and gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhoea. In more severe cases, patients may develop unexplained bleeding or bruising.

Health officials emphasise that seeking medical attention early is essential, as prompt care can improve the chances of survival for infected individuals.

Quick reporting and rapid medical intervention are also vital in preventing further spread of the virus within communities.
