Case filings and resolutions in Kenyan courts saw a significant surge during the 2023/24 financial year, according to data released by the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA).

The KIPPRA Policy Monitor report shows filed cases peaked at 516,121 in 2023/24, up from 402,243 in 2017/18. Resolved cases also reached a record high of 509,664.

The statistics highlight a steep drop during the 2019/20 period, when filed cases fell to 337,510 and resolved cases dropped to 289,728.

However, judicial output has since rebounded steadily, narrowing the gap between cases filed and cleared.
