Kenya’s sugarcane sector recorded fluctuating production levels between 2022 and 2026, with farmers earning an estimated Sh33.5 billion, according to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).

Production rebounded strongly in 2024, reaching 5.501 million tonnes, before declining again to 4.119 million tonnes in 2025.

The sector recorded its strongest performance in 2026, when sugarcane deliveries rose to a five-year high of 5.938 million tonnes.

Overall, deliveries increased by about 16.7 per cent between 2022 and 2026, despite significant fluctuations during the period.

The latest figures point to a strong recovery in sugarcane production, highlighting shifts in supply and production capacity across Kenya’s sugar-growing regions.
