Several cases involving public funds, unexplained wealth and recovery of money are scheduled for judgment or ruling in courts this week, according to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

A judgment is scheduled in the case involving Otieno Bob Kephas, a former Homa Bay County Assembly clerk, concerning Sh85.2 million in County Assembly funds.

Meanwhile, courts are expected to issue rulings in four other cases. These include a Sh813 million recovery suit involving Paul Kimani Wamatangi and others, as well as a Sh180 million unexplained wealth case involving David Isika Kinyae and others.

Also scheduled for a ruling is a Sh22.7 million salary and allowance recovery case involving Ezekiel Mutua and 12 others. The case concerns the recovery of funds relating to salaries and allowances.

The fourth ruling is expected in a Sh11.7 million tender recovery suit involving Sarah Muthoni Muraa, trading as Kawisa Suppliers.

The cases form part of the EACC’s civil recovery and anti-corruption litigation work. The Commission’s mandate includes investigating corruption and economic crimes, tracing and recovering corruptly acquired assets, and instituting civil proceedings for the recovery of public property or benefits.

The outcomes of the cases will determine the next steps in the respective proceedings, depending on the orders issued by the courts.
