How Kenya is stepping up surveillance amid infectious disease cases/Sydney Nyachiro

Kenya’s Ministry of Interior has intensified national disease surveillance as the country responds to ongoing public health emergencies across several counties.

Mpox cases have been reported in 40 counties, with the highest numbers recorded in Mombasa, Nairobi and Busia.

Dengue fever cases have been reported mainly in Garissa and Wajir, while measles cases have been reported in Baringo, Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera and Garissa.

Although no Ebola case has been confirmed in Kenya, health authorities have strengthened preparedness and response measures to facilitate rapid detection and containment.

Four laboratories have been designated for Ebola testing: the National Public Health Laboratory, KEMRI Nairobi, KEMRI Kisumu and a mobile laboratory serving Busia and Bungoma.

The government has also heightened surveillance, strengthened laboratory testing capacity and intensified public health interventions to support early detection, case management and containment of infectious diseases while maintaining preparedness for potential Ebola cases.
