Carbonated soft drinks lead consumer purchasing choices among non-alcoholic beverages across Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, according to survey findings published in the GeoPoll Annual Report – The FMCG Landscape in Africa 2026.
Soda tops the preferences, with 58 per cent of survey respondents reporting that they purchase carbonated soft drinks.
Bottled water follows closely behind as the second most popular option, selected by 56 per cent of those surveyed. Juices also secure a strong market presence, with exactly half of the respondents—50 per cent—purchasing them.
Energy drinks and sports drinks occupy the fourth spot on the preference list, chosen by 37 per cent of respondents. Meanwhile, ready-to-drink tea and coffee options are purchased by 28 per cent of consumers surveyed across the three nations.
Only 5 per cent of the respondents indicated that they buy none of the listed non-alcoholic drink categories.
