Baba Dogo Ward MCA Geoffrey Majiwa/HANDOUT

Baba Dogo Ward MCA Geoffrey Majiwa has been elected the new Chairperson of the Planning and Housing Committee of the Nairobi City County Assembly.

Majiwa was unanimously elected by members of the committee after the outgoing Chairperson, Alvin Palapala, withdrew from the race at the last minute and failed to appear at the election venue.

The newly elected chairperson will serve for the remainder of the Assembly's term leading up to the next General Election.

Speaking after his election, Majiwa thanked members for the confidence they had shown in him and pledged to uphold accountability and the rule of law in the committee's oversight role.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank Members who believed in me. I want to assure you that all is well and I shall deliver on my promises. It will be business unusual for those who do not follow the law because oversight, as stipulated under the Constitution, will be adhered to by this honourable committee," said Majiwa.

Members of the committee attributed Majiwa's election to his experience, leadership record, and deep understanding of the city's planning and development issues.

Kayole South MCA Collins Ogenga expressed confidence in Majiwa's leadership, citing his vast experience in city governance.

"We are proud of him and, as a former Mayor of this great City, we believe he has the experience and skills necessary to steer the Planning Committee effectively," Ogenga said.

Majiwa's election is expected to usher in a new chapter for the influential committee, which plays a key role in overseeing planning, housing, and development matters within Nairobi City County.
