Kenya Police FC have parted ways with head coach Nicholas Muyoti and his assistant John Baraza following a difficult start to the new SportPesa League campaign.
The decision comes after Police opened their season with a 1-1 draw against Migori Youth before suffering a 2-1 defeat to AFC Leopards, leaving the club under pressure to turn around its early-season fortunes.
In a statement announcing the departures, Kenya Police said the decision was linked to the coaches’ pursuit of advanced coaching qualifications, noting that both had joined the club on the understanding that they would be released when an opportunity arose to further their coaching education.
“Coach Nicholas Muyoti and John Baraza joined Kenya Police Football Club on the understanding that the Club would release them to advance their CAF coaching credentials whenever an opportunity arose,” the statement read.
The club confirmed that both coaches hold CAF B licences and had activated their requests to enrol in CAF A coaching classes, with management agreeing to their requests.
“The Club has consented to their requests and recognizes that the coaching dynamics are shifting. Soon it will be mandatory for only licensed CAF-A holders to steer Kenya Premier League Teams,” the statement added.
Muyoti took charge of Kenya Police in January 2026 after serving as assistant coach under Serbian tactician Dusan Stojanovic. He was promoted following Stojanovic’s departure and guided the team to a third-place finish in the league last season, as well as an appearance in the Mozzart Bet Cup final.
Baraza joined the club as Muyoti’s assistant after previously holding coaching roles at Sofapaka and Bandari. The former Harambee Stars striker also enjoyed a successful playing career, winning the Kenyan Premier League Golden Boot three times.
Despite their departure, Kenya Police praised the duo for their service and professionalism, wishing them well as they pursue further coaching qualifications.
“The Board and Management of the Team commends the duo’s diligence, commitment, professionalism, and work ethic while wishing them very best in their education and coaching journeys,” the statement read.
Kenya Police said it would communicate its future coaching plans in due course as the club seeks to stabilise its campaign after a disappointing opening to the season.
