The amount lost through cyber fraud rose sharply in 2024, with mobile banking fraud recording the highest losses, according to data from the Central Bank of Kenya.
Losses from mobile banking fraud increased to Sh810.68 million, up from Sh182.41 million in 2023.
Card fraud losses also surged to Sh263.29 million from Sh15.6 million, while computer fraud rose to Sh203.39 million from Sh74.84 million.
Identity theft losses increased to Sh199.08 million from Sh32.62 million.
Online banking fraud recorded Sh111.83 million, compared with Sh106.21 million previously. Internet scams caused losses of Sh6.07 million, up from Sh790,000.
