Angola recorded the highest share of botnet detections in Africa in 2025 at 37.95%, according to the Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2026. Cameroon followed with 23.89%, while South Africa ranked third at 9.12%.
Kenya placed fourth, accounting for 7.78% of all botnet detections, ahead of Ghana at 6.29%.
Zambia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Botswana, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso each recorded less than two per cent.

The report also grouped 7.08% of detections under "Other" African countries.
A botnet is a network of internet-connected devices infected with malware and secretly controlled by cybercriminals.
Such networks are commonly used to launch cyberattacks, spread malicious software and carry out online fraud.
