The 10 most fatal terrorist attacks in Africa during 2025 caused significant casualties across six nations, this is according to data from the Global Terrorism Index 2026.

Burkina Faso experienced the highest impact, accounting for four of these deadly events, including the single deadliest attack that resulted in 120 fatalities.

The other two separate incidents caused 100 deaths each, and another led to 65 deaths.

Niger and the Democratic Republic of the Congo both recorded major incidents resulting in 71 fatalities each, while the Democratic Republic of the Congo suffered a second attack claiming 70 lives.

Mali witnessed an attack with 66 deaths.

Completing the top ten list, Somalia and Nigeria each reported violent events that claimed 63 lives.

Overall, these figures emphasise the heavy concentration of severe terrorist violence in West Africa and Central Africa, where multiple nations suffered severe losses of life from major incidents throughout the full calendar year.
