The United States remains the global leader in data centre infrastructure, hosting 5,427 facilities in 2025, according to the Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2026.
The country accounts for more data centres than the rest of the top-ranked nations combined, reflecting its dominance in cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital services.
Germany ranks second with 529 data centres, narrowly ahead of the United Kingdom at 523. China follows with 449 facilities, while Canada and France have 337 and 322, respectively.
Australia, the Netherlands, Russia, Japan and Brazil also feature among the leading countries.
Rounding out the top 15 are Mexico with 173 data centres, Italy with 168, India with 153 and Poland with 144.
Data centres are specialised facilities that store, process and manage digital information used by websites, mobile applications, cloud platforms and AI systems.
Their rapid growth is being driven by increasing demand for digital services, AI computing power and secure data storage, making them critical infrastructure for the modern global economy.
