Inflation highlights July 2026/Sydney Nyachiro



Kenya's annual inflation rose to 6.5 per cent in July 2026, up slightly from 6.4 per cent recorded in June, reflecting higher prices across both food and non-food items, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).

Among core inflation items, beef with bone recorded the highest annual increase at 10.7 per cent, followed by sugar at 10.4 per cent.

Cooking oil rose by 3.8 per cent, while fresh packeted cow milk increased by 2.3 per cent.

Prices of non-aromatic white rice and sifted maize flour remained relatively stable.

Outside the core basket, tomatoes registered the sharpest price increase at 33.7 per cent, followed by diesel at 29.7 per cent and sukuma wiki at 26.8 per cent.

Petrol prices were up 14.7 per cent year-on-year.

Electricity tariffs for both 200kW and 50kW consumer categories remained largely unchanged, rising by just 0.1 per cent and 0.2 per cent, respectively.
