Vijoo Rattansi, who died on July 30, 2026, was an education philanthropist and the first woman to serve as Chancellor of the University of Nairobi.
Installed as the institution's fifth Chancellor on December 6, 2013, she served until 2023, guiding the university through the Covid-19 pandemic and supporting the continuity of academic programmes.
As chairperson of the Rattansi Educational Trust, she championed access to education and also led the Daisy Eye Cancer Fund.
Rattansi received the Order of the Grand Warrior in 2006 and an honorary Doctor of Letters from Moi University.
She consistently urged graduates to uphold integrity, humility and service to society.
