National average maize prices across select East African countries remained broadly stable between May and June 2026.
Declines were, however, recorded in all five markets monitored by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).
Kenya posted the highest average maize price at $438 per metric ton in May, easing slightly to $433 in June.
Uganda followed at $433 in May and $426 in June, while Rwanda's prices dipped from $428 to $421 per metric ton.
Tanzania recorded one of the sharpest monthly declines, with prices falling from $285 to $248 per metric ton.
Ethiopia also registered a significant drop, declining from $384 in May to $254 in June, the largest decrease among the countries surveyed.
The figures, which represent the cost of 1,000 kilograms of maize, suggest improving market conditions in parts of the region.
Despite the declines, Kenya continued to record the highest maize prices, reflecting varying supply, production and demand dynamics across East Africa.
