Sandra Mbuvi, the daughter of former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, has announced that she will contest for the Kitusuru Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in the 2027 General Elections.

The announcement marks Sandra’s first public step into active politics after years in the public eye through business ventures and celebrity appearances.
Sandra shared the news through her Instagram stories, where she posted a campaign poster confirming her intention to vie for the seat under the National Economic and Development Party (NEDP), a political party associated with her father.
“You know it, we're running it.”
The poster also introduced her campaign slogan, “Kitusuru kwa wote wetu.”

Campaign Priorities Outlined

In her announcement, Sandra highlighted several issues she intends to focus on if elected.
Among her priorities are youth empowerment programmes, improved healthcare services, better education, safer neighbourhoods and transparent leadership.
She also promised to work closely with residents to strengthen community development within the ward.
According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Members of the County Assembly are responsible for legislation, oversight and representing ward interests at the county level. Nairobi County has 85 elected MCA wards, including Kitusuru.
Sandra’s campaign message appeared to target younger voters, with several online supporters encouraging more youth participation in leadership positions.
“Young people for government,” one social media user wrote.
Another supporter commented:
“We’re voting for you, your dad is a real G.”

Mixed Reactions Online

Despite receiving support from some followers, Sandra’s political ambitions also sparked debate online.
Some users questioned whether she was prepared for leadership, while others pointed to her privileged background.
Another issue raised by online users was her current stay in London, where she is reportedly pursuing further studies.
“Having money doesn't guarantee that you have the ability to lead others,” one commenter wrote.
Others, however, defended her decision to enter politics, saying young leaders should be given an opportunity to compete fairly.
The former governor has not publicly commented on his daughter’s political bid.
