Kenyans are increasingly concerned about the quality and credibility of media content, with misinformation topping the list of worries.

According to the State of Media 2025 survey by the Media Council of Kenya, 28 per cent of respondents cited the spread of false or misleading information as their biggest concern.

An equal proportion pointed to inadequate and less diverse coverage of key national issues, highlighting gaps in representation and depth.

Bias in media reporting ranked third at 17 per cent, reflecting growing scepticism about objectivity in news coverage.

Concerns over the high frequency of advertisements and issues around regulation and freedom of expression each stood at 10 per cent, indicating unease over both commercial pressures and editorial independence.

Meanwhile, 6 per cent flagged gaming and gambling content as problematic, while 2 per cent cited other concerns.

The findings underscore the need for stronger editorial standards, balanced reporting and efforts to rebuild public trust in Kenya’s media landscape.
