Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria has announced a fresh plan to help Felix Orinda, famously known as DJ Evolve, return to the music industry.
This move comes just hours after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino made a public admission regarding the 2020 shooting that left the entertainer paralysed.
Mosiria expressed his desire to visit the DJ to explore ways to empower him to rebuild and thrive. Rather than focusing solely on medical aid, the official wants to leverage opportunities in the digital space.
A Vision for the Digital Space
Mosiria’s proposal focuses on restoring the DJ's professional independence. He suggested establishing an online DJ entertainment platform. This would allow Orinda to connect with his audience virtually from home.
“Our focus would be on empowering him to rebuild and thrive, particularly by leveraging opportunities in the digital space,” Mosiria wrote.

In addition, the official proposed a DJ academy where Orinda could train and mentor upcoming talent. Mosiria believes this would provide a "sustainable source of income" while nurturing the next generation of performers.
“We can support him in establishing an online DJ entertainment platform, enabling him to continue his passion and connect with audiences virtually. In addition, we can help set up a DJ academy where he can train and mentor upcoming DJs, creating a sustainable source of income while also nurturing young talent.”
Owino: ‘I Should Be in Jail’
These plans emerged shortly after Babu Owino’s appearance on NTV Kenya’s Fixing the Nation. During the segment, the legislator admitted that under different circumstances, he would be imprisoned.
The MP argued for "restorative justice" over "retributive justice". He claimed that punishment alone would not help the victim recover. Instead, he has focused on funding the DJ’s extensive medical needs.
The Financial Breakdown:
- Total medical expenditure: Nearly Sh70 million.
- Monthly medical costs: Approximately Sh500,000.
- Outstanding hospital debt: Sh28 million at Nairobi Hospital.

Owino stated he has taken out several loans from banks and SACCOs to keep up with these payments. He noted that while Orinda can now eat and talk, he still requires intensive physiotherapy to walk again.
The Path to Forgiveness
Addressing the 2020 incident, Owino described it as a Saul to Paul moment that led him to quit alcohol and drugs. He maintained the shooting was accidental, claiming the gun discharged while he was showing it to Orinda.
“DJ Evolve did not annoy me. He didn’t do anything wrong to me; he only asked me about the firearm whether it was fake or genuine. I just removed it to show,” he stated.
The MP insisted that the DJ’s forgiveness was not bought. He described Orinda as a "very good person" who understood there was no prior conflict between them.
The incident took place in January 2020 at B-Club in Nairobi’s Kilimani area. CCTV footage from the night showed the MP shooting the DJ in the neck at close range.

According to reports, the DJ was left with life-altering spinal injuries. In 2021, the court allowed the withdrawal of attempted murder charges after the DJ filed an application to settle the matter out of court to focus on his healing.
