Police officers at the scene directing vehicles and working with emergency teams to clear the affected section of the road/SCREENGRABTraffic flow along the Nairobi Southern Bypass was disrupted on Friday after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) temporarily closed the Ole Sereni-bound carriageway following a road accident.
In a traffic advisory issued on April 24, KeNHA said the affected section lies between Thogoto and Dagoretti interchanges near Karinde and was shut to allow for clearance operations after the morning crash.
The authority warned motorists to expect delays along the busy stretch and advised those yet to begin their journeys to seek alternative routes.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to notify motorists that the Nairobi Southern Bypass (Ole Sereni bound), between Thogoto and Dagoretti interchanges near Karinde, has been temporarily closed following a road traffic accident earlier this morning,” the notice said.
KeNHA advised motorists heading towards the city to consider using the Kikuyu–Mutuini–Dagoretti road (C63) as an alternative route to avoid the traffic snarl-up.
“Traffic delays are expected along the affected section, and motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly,” the authority said.
The agency further urged drivers to cooperate with traffic marshals and enforcement officers deployed on site to help manage the situation and speed up the restoration of normal traffic flow.
“Motorists are further advised to cooperate with traffic marshals and enforcement officers on site as clearance efforts continue,” the authority said.
A video shared by KeNHA showed police officers at the scene directing vehicles and working with emergency teams to clear the affected section of the road.
A recovery vehicle was also seen towing away a trailer believed to have been involved in the accident as officers worked to ease congestion and reopen the carriageway.
KeNHA said the authority was working around the clock to ensure the road is cleared and normal movement restored as quickly as possible.
“KeNHA assures all road users that we are working around the clock to restore normal traffic flow and ensure the safety of motorists,” the authority said.
