President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving learning conditions for tertiary students following the launch of a key infrastructure project in Kisii County.

Speaking Tuesday during the laying of the foundation stone for a new hostel at Nyamache KMTC in Nyamache, the Head of State announced that the facility will accommodate up to 340 students upon completion.

He said the project is part of a broader government plan to expand access to quality education and ensure learners study in dignified conditions.

“This programme will help us ensure our students have a good environment to learn in,” Ruto said, noting that the new hostel will ease congestion and address long-standing accommodation challenges at the institution.

The president also highlighted ongoing reforms in student financing, revealing that the government is strengthening the Higher Education Loans Board to better support learners in tertiary institutions. He emphasised that access to affordable education remains a key priority under his administration.

At the same event, Ruto pointed to continued investments in infrastructure, stating that funds have already been allocated for the construction of over 220 kilometres of roads, including key routes in the Bobasi area.

He said the projects will open up the region, boost economic activity, and improve access to essential services.

In his address, the president urged leaders and residents to embrace unity and reject divisive politics. “Hatutaki siasa ya chuki na ukabila,” he said, calling on Kenyans to prioritise development over ethnic divisions.

Local leaders welcomed the projects, with Sylvanus Osoro describing Kisii as a strong pillar of the nation and expressing confidence that the government’s initiatives will transform the region.

“Kisii ni ngome ya Kenya,” he said, pledging support for the national government’s development agenda.

The event brought together leaders, students, and residents, marking a significant step in efforts to improve education infrastructure and accelerate regional development.
