Comedian and entrepreneur Sammy Kioko has issued an ultimatum to the Machakos County government, giving Governor Wavinya Ndeti until Sunday to respond to concerns raised by him and other contractors over unpaid dues, failing which they will camp at the county offices starting Tuesday next week.
The ultimatum comes amid an ongoing dispute in which Kioko claims the county owes him KSh19 million for uniforms supplied to the county government.
According to recent reports, Kioko says he has only received KSh20,000 toward the debt, an amount he described as insignificant compared to the outstanding balance. Sammy Kioko// Instagram
The situation has drawn public attention, with the contractor accusing the county administration of delaying payment and failing to address the matter formally.
“We will spend the whole day there, and not
only the day, we will also spend the night there. We want to tell them enough
is enough, sisi sasa hatuwaogopi. We are going outside there, we’re going to
meet them and see what’s the worst that can happen,” he said.
Reports indicate that the comedian and his sister previously staged protests outside county offices in an effort to push for the settlement of the alleged debt.
The protest was part of broader efforts to compel the administration to respond after what he described as exhausting formal channels.
In his latest statement, Kioko warned that if the county fails to respond by Sunday, he and other affected contractors will camp at the county offices beginning Tuesday to demand action on pending payments.
The planned protest is expected to involve multiple suppliers who claim they are owed money for services and goods delivered to the county government.

County’s Position
Machakos County officials have previously denied having a direct contractual relationship with Kioko, stating that he is not listed as a registered supplier in official procurement records.
The county has maintained that the tender in question was awarded to a different registered entity, and issues such as incomplete deliveries contributed to delays in payment.
Despite the denial, Kioko insists that the debt is legitimate and continues to push for full payment, saying the delays have severely affected his business operations and personal finances.

Wider Concerns Over Contractor Payments
The standoff has sparked broader debate about delayed payments to contractors by county governments in Kenya. Stakeholders argue that the delayed settlement of verified contracts can disrupt businesses, lead to job losses, and slow down service delivery at the county level.
As the Sunday deadline approaches, attention is now shifting to whether the Machakos County government will respond to the ultimatum or face a planned protest at its offices next week.
