Kirinyaga Gender Chief Officer Sheila Mwangi distributing food hampers to Muslim families at Kutus mosque on Eid-ul-fitr/ ALICE WAITHERAKirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has distributed food hampers to 1,140 Muslim families across 11 mosques in Kirinyaga County in a gesture aimed at supporting the community as it marks Eid-ul-Fitr.
The hampers included maize flour, wheat flour, rice and cooking oil, and were issued to help families celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan with dignity.
Speaking during the distribution exercise in Kutus, where at least 350 families benefited, Gender County Executive Committee Member Millicent Ngari said the initiative was meant to ensure inclusivity and support for all families regardless of their circumstances.
“Ramadhan is a period of togetherness, so the county government decided to show solidarity with the Muslim community. We wish you all Eid Mubarak,” she said.
Gender Chief Officer Sheila Mwangi described the programme as a reflection of unity and thoughtful leadership, noting that the distribution was deliberately structured to reach all Muslim families across the county.
“This is about ensuring that no family feels forgotten. It is a message of unity, care and shared humanity,” she said.
Nyangati MCA Kennedy Mwendia lauded the initiative, noting that it comes at a time when the country needs greater cohesion amid rising political tensions.

Religious leaders welcomed the support, saying it would go a long way in assisting vulnerable families.
Imam Hamisi Muiruri from Sagana expressed gratitude to the governor for consistently remembering the Muslim community during Eid celebrations.
He added that the initiative has become an annual programme that continues to impact many households, noting that more than 220 families in Sagana had benefited this time round.
“These donations go a long way in supporting vulnerable families, especially orphans and those unable to afford meals, ensuring they are able to take part in the celebrations and that no family is left out due to lack of food,” said Imam Muiruri.
At Kutus Mosque, Osman Juma described the county’s support as a rare show of solidarity with the Muslim community while urging political leaders to maintain peace nationally and avoid divisive politics.
Halima Nyokabi from Kutus noted many Kenyan families have been undergoing extreme financial strain due to the harsh economic times saying the support would enable them to participate in the celebrations without a struggle.
