Ugandan opposition figure and musician-turned-politician Bobi Wine, born Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, has confirmed that he has left Uganda after spending months in hiding due to security concerns.
Bobi Wine has remained out of public view since mid-January 2026, following a disputed election loss and a reported military raid on his residence. During this period, he repeatedly expressed fears for his safety and appealed to supporters through social media.
In a video released on Saturday morning, 14th March 2026, the 44-year-old politician confirmed his departure from Uganda, citing the need to attend “critical engagements” abroad.
“By the time you see this video, I will have left the country for some critical engagements outside Uganda, and at the right time, I will come back and continue with the cause,” he stated.

Bobi Wine also took the opportunity to thank Ugandans who supported him during his period in hiding. “Those who fed me, clothed me, and those who offered me shelter, God bless you,” he said, acknowledging the people who kept him safe.
While he did not disclose his destination, he announced a temporary leadership change within his political party. Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru will serve as acting president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) during his absence.
This move marks a significant chapter in Uganda’s political scene, as Bobi Wine navigates both personal safety concerns and the ongoing challenges of leading his party amid a tense political climate.
