Artificial intelligence literacy and data-driven insights have emerged as the most essential capabilities for the future of public relations in Africa.

According to the State of PR in Africa Report 2025, over 70 per cent of industry experts identify AI literacy as the leading requirement for the next generation of professionals.

This is closely followed by data analysis and insights, which nearly 70 per cent of respondents cited as a critical skill for navigating the evolving media landscape.

Beyond technical proficiency, the report highlights a strong emphasis on foundational communication and ethical standards.

Ethics and crisis sensitivity were prioritised by more than half of those surveyed, while content and narrative design also ranked highly.

Visual storytelling and stakeholder engagement remain relevant, though they appear further down the priority list.

These findings suggest a significant shift toward a technology-integrated approach to communication, where practitioners must balance digital fluency with traditional crisis management and creative storytelling to remain effective
