Kenya’s legal fraternity has chosen a new leader. Senior Counsel Charles Njiru Kanjama has been elected as the 52nd President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
He succeeds the outgoing president, Faith Odhiambo, following a competitive election that drew national attention.
The Numbers Behind the Victory
The election results delivered a clear mandate for Kanjama. He secured 3,728 votes, comfortably leading his closest challenger, Peter Wanyama, who received 2,616 votes.
Current Vice President Mwaura Kabata finished third with 2,086 votes.
The voting took place across roughly 40 polling stations nationwide. This decisive win places Kanjama at the head of the society for the 2026–2028 term.

Who is Kanjama?
A Man of Many Hats Kanjama is often described as a polymath within legal circles. With over 21 years of experience, he was conferred the prestigious rank of Senior Counsel in 2022.
His academic profile is remarkably diverse. Beyond his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Nairobi, Kanjama is a:

• Certified Public Secretary (CPS)
• Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb)
He is currently pursuing both a Master of Laws (LL.M) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). This unique combination positions him at the intersection of law, finance, and corporate governance.
Legal Career and Professional Path
Kanjama began his legal journey with valuable experience gained as a legal assistant and associate at reputable law firms, including Ochieng’, Onyango, Kibet & Ohaga Advocates.
He previously served as the inaugural Chair of the Nairobi Branch from 2016 to 2020. He was also the LSK Council Treasurer between 2012 and 2014.
In 2006, he co-founded Muma & Kanjama Advocates, where he remains the Managing Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution. Outside of his law firm, he is a lecturer at Strathmore University, teaching subjects ranging from Criminal Law to Healthcare Law.

A Faith-Driven Leader Beyond the courtroom, Kanjama is deeply involved in professional and religious advocacy. He serves as the Chairman of the Kenya Christian Professionals Forum (KCPF). He also holds a leadership role in the Africa Christian Professionals Forum.
As he prepares for the formal handover, Kanjama faces a critical period. His term will coincide with the approach to the 2027 general elections, a time when the LSK’s role in defending human rights and justice is traditionally most vital.
