Outgoing Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has congratulated Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama following his election as the 52nd President of the society.

In a message issued after the conclusion of the polls, Odhiambo described Kanjama’s victory as “resounding” and praised his track record within the legal fraternity.

She said his “record of dutiful service to the society and contributions to the development of governance in Kenya make him a worthy torchbearer of the LSK’s vision and mandate.”

Odhiambo noted that Kanjama assumes office at a critical time for the country, with Kenya heading into a high-stakes electioneering period. She expressed confidence in his leadership, saying the people of Kenya would look up to him to safeguard constitutionalism and uphold the rule of law.

"The people of Kenya will look up to your leadership as we get into a high-stakes electioneering period, and I am hopeful that you will offer the required leadership and remain committed to the rule of law and the Constitution," she said.

“You inherit the leadership of a united, stable and forward-looking society which can achieve great success if steered diligently and tactfully,” she said.

Odhiambo concluded her message with a call to service, urging the new LSK president to “serve with distinction.”

Charles Kanjama was elected on Thursday as the president of the Law Society of Kenya.

Kanjama won the LSK presidential seat after garnering 3,728 votes.

Peter Wanyama came second with 2,616 votes, while Mwaura Kabata came third after garnering 2,086 votes.

Kanjama takes over from Faith Odhiambo, who has been at the helm of the body.

Kanjama brings over two decades of legal expertise to the 2026-2028 council.

Kanjama’s presidency is expected to reinforce the LSK’s position as a pivotal player in Kenya’s political architecture.

Lawyers voted to choose the next President, Vice-President and Council members of the Society, which represents more than 20,000 practising advocates nationwide.

The biennial elections mark the end of the two-year term of LSK President Faith Odhiambo.

The Law Society of Kenya 2026 elections started with a blend of early enthusiasm and significant procedural drama, as the premier bar association moved to elect its leadership for the 2026-28 biennial cycle.
