According to data from the Central Bank of Kenya, diaspora remittance inflows have demonstrated consistent growth over the past seven years, reflecting the increasing economic contribution of Kenyans living abroad.
In 2020, remittances stood at $3,094 million, climbing steadily to reach $5,040 million by 2025.
This upward trajectory highlights the resilience of these financial flows despite global economic fluctuations.
Looking ahead, the Central Bank of Kenya projects that diaspora remittances will grow by 4% in 2026, reaching an estimated $5.24 billion, which is equivalent to approximately Sh676 billion.
This steady increase serves as a vital source of foreign exchange for the country, supporting the national balance of payments and providing a direct financial lifeline to millions of households.
The consistent rise from $3,718 million in 2021 through to the 2026 projection underscores the deepening financial link between the Kenyan diaspora and the domestic economy.
