The number of users worldwide has grown steadily from 3.3 billion in 2019 to 5.1 billion in 2024.

The upward trend is expected to continue, reaching 5.4 billion in 2025, 6.0 billion by 2027 and 6.5 billion in 2029.

In tandem with rising user numbers, global penetration rates are also climbing, projected to hit 82.6 per cent by 2029.

The figures highlight the expanding role of social media in communication, business and content consumption across the globe.

Increased smartphone adoption, improved internet access and the popularity of digital platforms have accelerated uptake in both developed and emerging markets.
