Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has officially unveiled the 2026 edition of the "Kiharu Masomo Bora" education blueprint, promising a radical shift in the affordability of secondary education.
Using his X handle to announce the update, the MP outlined a comprehensive plan that slashes costs while significantly boosting school resources and student welfare.
Fees Slashed to Ksh 500
Under the newly launched programme, parents will see a dramatic reduction in the cost of education. Starting from the first term of 2026, school fees for all Day Secondary School learners in Kiharu will be set at Ksh 500 per term.

This initiative is designed to cover over 12,000 learners across all 65 Day secondary schools within the constituency.
“School Fees for all Day Secondary School learners will be Ksh 500 per term starting this 1st term of 2026. (Senior Secondary Schools),” He posted.
To ensure no hidden costs burden the parents, the programme strictly prohibits any other payments or registration fees of any nature in these institutions. Furthermore, fees for remedial arrangements have been capped at a maximum of Ksh 1,000 per term.
"The programme covers all learners, including Kenyans from other parts of the country as long as they are in any of our Day Secondary Schools," the MP stated on his X handle.
"Chapati Friday" and Enhanced Nutrition
A major highlight of the 2026 edition is the expanded feeding programme. Every student will be served lunch at school six days a week, including Saturdays.
The weekly menu includes githeri for three days and rice for the remaining three, with porridge (uji) provided during the "tea" break.

In a move that has captured local attention, Nyoro announced that chapati will be served for lunch every last Friday of the month.
Beyond meals, the programme will also take over the premium payments and general servicing of buses owned by these schools to ensure they remain safe and accessible.

Massive Investment in Infrastructure
The MP confirmed that the Kiharu National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) would provide substantial financial backing.
Free uniforms will also be provided to all students joining Grade 10 in 20 identified schools that currently have low enrolment.
Rewarding Excellence
The blueprint does not overlook the educators. To motivate staff, the MP is personally funding reward trips. The best-improved teacher per subject in each sub-county will receive a paid trip to Mombasa.
Additionally, twelve principals from the best and most improved schools will be treated to a fully paid trip to Dubai or Malaysia.
According to the MP, these rewards are funded privately since public resource provisions do not cover such expenditures.
A further Ksh 900,000 has been set aside for prize-giving celebrations to reward top-performing students in Murang’a East and Kahuro without requiring contributions from parents.
