Pokot South MP David Pkosing has defended his Suna East counterpart Junet Mohamed in the storm over campaign cash.
The lawmaker, a top gun in the defunct Azimio Coalition, said there was no cash given to Junet as claimed by Nairobi Senator and ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna.
"Junet was not given money. We used to meet everyday at Riverside to plan and strategies, and we spent our cash to manage agents in our areas," he said.
The MP said President Uhuru Kenyatta's team are fully aware that no money was released to Suna East, urging them to speak.
"Junet is a scapegoat. He is my personal friend and I can testify he was not given any money for agents," the MP said.
He said the answer Sifuna should give Kenyans is why Junet would be given yet he wasn't running for President.
"Was Junet running for President. The fact is that the Azimio Coalition co-principal did nothing to help Raila. If he helped, why did we get only 10 per cent in his backyard, yet some of us from President William Ruto's backyard got 50 per cent?" Pkosing asked, adding, "Tiaty even gave Raila almost 75 per cent."
Uhuru's office declined to comment on the assertions around the campaign cash.
The controversy stems from recent public remarks by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, the ODM Secretary General.
In a series of statements, Sifuna has been pressing for accountability over the alleged disappearance of funds earmarked for 2022 election agents.
Without naming Junet directly in every instance, his references to "people who were trusted with resources" and demands for explanations regarding unpaid agents have been widely interpreted as targeting the Suna East MP.
The lawmaker was a chief campaigner and a central figure in Azimio's logistics.
In response, Junet Mohamed launched a strong defense, denying any misappropriation and turning the accusation toward the highest levels of the former coalition.
He has publicly stated that former President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Azimio co-principal, was directly responsible for the release and channeling of campaign funds through his own parallel structures.
Junet claims he was sidelined from the actual disbursement process, which he alleges was managed by individuals close to the former president.
Pkosing's public defense of Junet and his pointed questions about Uhuru Kenyatta's support underscore the lingering bitterness and internal fractures within the defunct Azimio coalition.
A faction says Uhuru's machinery did not fully deliver for the presidential candidate, particularly in his own Mount Kenya region.
