Prophet Dr David Owuor has called on the Kenyan government to conduct an independent investigation into claims of miraculous healings following his recent mega rally in Menengai, Nakuru.

The move comes in response to a cautionary statement issued by the country’s medical regulatory body regarding faith-based healing.

The Medical Council’s Warning

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) recently raised concerns over public health safety following reports of faith-based healings for serious conditions, including HIV/AIDS and cancer.

Dr David G. Kariuki, the Chief Executive Officer of KMPDC, stated that medical treatments must be grounded in scientific evidence and rigorous testing.

The council warned that relying on unverified methods for chronic illnesses poses grave risks, potentially leading to drug resistance or loss of life.

KMPDC urged the public not to abandon prescribed treatments, such as those for HIV/AIDS, diabetes, and hypertension, in favour of unproven alternatives.

A Call for Scientific Scrutiny

Responding to these concerns, Prophet Owuor, through an extensive statement on X, acknowledged the KMPDC’s emphasis on evidence-based medicine but argued there is a "significant gap" in how his ministry is perceived.

"Prophet Dr. Owuor does not tell people to stop their medications or abandon their treatments. We only consider a case verified once these doctors have confirmed, through their own professional assessment, that there has been a measurable change in the person's health status,” read the statement.

Owuor has now invited the Ministry of Health and the KMPDC to formally investigate his documented cases. He suggested that once an investigation is complete, the findings should be made public so Kenyans can see if the healings hold up under scrutiny.

Documented HIV/AIDS Cases

To support his claims, the ministry has shared excerpts of medical records belonging to individuals who allegedly recovered from HIV/AIDS.

These include laboratory reports from various hospitals for the individuals.

The documents displayed show "Reactive" results before the rally and "Not Detected" or "Non-Reactive" results in follow-up tests conducted at facilities like The Aga Khan University Hospital and The Karen Hospital.

Ready for Verification

The Prophet’s ministry claims to have extensive documentation spanning numerous cases.

According to the ministry, the individuals involved are real people living in their communities who have permitted their stories to be shared.

"They're available and willing to speak with any government investigators, medical professionals, or journalists who want to verify their stories firsthand," the ministry stated.

hile the KMPDC continues to maintain that unverified claims can mislead vulnerable individuals, the Prophet insists that his ministry’s operations are focused on what medical science can observe and document.

The standoff now rests on whether the government will take up the offer to conduct a formal, independent audit of these medical files.
