Kenyan environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has drawn national attention following her successful demonstration of dedication to environmental causes.

Muthoni achieved a continuous 72-hour tree-hugging effort, a feat that underscores her commitment to raising awareness on environmental preservation.

Her achievement has formally been recognized during a meeting at State House, where President William Ruto honored her exemplary service to environmental stewardship.

As part of the recognition, President Ruto conferred upon her the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal and appointed her as the ambassador of the 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign, signaling her new role in advancing national environmental initiatives.

President Ruto Declines the Challenge

When asked whether he would attempt to match or surpass her 72-hour duration, President Ruto was explicit about his position.

He noted the dedication the challenge required, while clarifying the scope of his own activities. Responding directly to Muthoni, he said:

"My dear I do many things. But I don't want I don't want to try that one. That one I leave it to you. Me my job will be to cheer you on."

This statement clearly defined the roles in the ongoing environmental effort, positioning Muthoni as the record-holder and the President as a supporter and encourager of her work.

Recognition and Official Support

Beyond declining to participate, President Ruto publicly recognized Muthoni’s efforts, pledging support for her ongoing environmental advocacy.

He encouraged her to break the next record and the next record and emphasized his backing for her initiatives: "Support us with the matters environment and all the good things that you're doing." He said.
