Former President Uhuru Kenyatta shared intimate details of his relationship with departed political figure Raila Odinga during the State Funeral Mass.

Speaking at Nyayo Stadium, Kenyatta gave mourners a rare glimpse into the private conversations the two leaders shared.

The former president recounted moments of relaxation following their official duties. He described settling down for a quiet chat, perhaps over a cup of tea or porridge.

Kenyatta revealed that their discussions often drifted to deep reflections about Africa's great founding fathers. They pondered what those legendary figures might be discussing now that they had passed on.

The leaders whose afterlife conversations they debated included Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Kwame Nkrumah, and Jomo Kenyatta.

“Unajua jamani wale wazee ambao wameenda akina Jaramogi, Jomo, Nkurumah, Mwalimu Nyerere jameni unafikiri wakiketi wanaongea mambo gani?” Uhuru revealed.

Kenyatta said he often shared his own theory about the gatherings of these departed heroes. He believed they were still discussing politics, much like they did in life.

Furthermore, Kenyatta hypothesized that they look down upon current affairs and laugh at what he termed their "foolish matters" ("mambo hii yetu ya upuzi").

'Not in a Hurry to Join Them'

Addressing the profound loss, Kenyatta acknowledged that his friend and colleague had now joined the great ancestors they often discussed.

“Ah mimi nilikuwa nasema unajua wanaongea siasa kama sisi wanatuangalia tu na mambo hii yetu ya upuzi hapa wanatuchekelea,”.

Kenyatta shared his deep curiosity to know exactly what Odinga was now discussing with the rest of the departed statesmen. However, he quickly clarified that he was not in any haste to follow him into death.

The former president stated he wished to take some time to settle down and relax first. He hoped that God would help him achieve this wish.

“Sio ati niko na haraka ya kuja kuwafikia lakini Bado tunataka tutulie tutulie kidogo Mwenyezi Mungu atusaidie,”.

Kenyatta noted that when his own time eventually comes, he expects Odinga to be there to help him. He assured the mourners that the departed leader would guide him along the roads of the afterlife.
