Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has called on Kenyan youth, particularly Generation Z, to take charge of the country’s future by actively participating in the upcoming elections.
Through a passionate message shared on social media, the outspoken legislator emphasised that voting is not just a civic duty but a powerful act of transformation.

A Powerful Message to the Youth
In his viral video , Babu Owino declared, “Chukueni kura, kura sio karatasi tu, ni risasi ya mabadiliko.”
He went on to advise the youth, saying, “Kwa vijana wetu, mchukue kura. Kura yako ndio afya yako, kura yako ndio maisha yako na kura yako ndio mabadiliko yako.”
His statement, rich in symbolism, underscored the importance of using the ballot to drive social and political change.

The MP’s words resonated widely online, sparking conversations about youth responsibility, leadership, and the role of the younger generation in shaping the country’s future.
Encouraging Political Participation
Babu Owino’s message comes at a time when voter apathy among the youth remains a growing concern. Despite Kenya’s youth accounting for nearly 70% of the population, recent elections have witnessed low turnout among this demographic.
Many young people cite frustration with issues such as unemployment, corruption, and lack of opportunities as reasons for staying away from the polls.

By urging them to take their role seriously, Babu reminded Gen Z that real change begins at the ballot box, not just on social media.
Linking the Vote to Everyday Life
The legislator also made a compelling link between voting and everyday well-being. By equating the vote to health, life, and transformation, Babu Owino highlighted how leadership choices directly impact essential sectors like healthcare, education, and the economy.
Through his message, he encouraged the youth to look beyond short-term dissatisfaction and instead focus on the long-term benefits of civic engagement.
According to him, a single vote can determine the quality of life for millions, shaping policies that affect everything from employment opportunities to national development.
From Social Media Activism to Real Change
Kenya’s Gen Z has become one of the most politically expressive groups online, using platforms like TikTok, X, and Instagram to voice opinions on governance and social issues. However, this energy rarely translates into actual voter participation.
Babu Owino’s words serve as a wake-up call urging digital activism to move beyond hashtags and translate into voter registration and turnout.
Analysts believe that if this generation embraces active participation, they could significantly influence the outcome of the 2027 elections.
