The United Green Movement (UGM) has officially certified former Chief Justice David Maraga as their presidential flagbearer. Maraga is now the party’s official candidate for the 2027 general elections1.
The party held a Certification Ceremony that was broadcasted live on their Facebook page to formally welcome him.
Maraga Accepts the Green Banner
During the ceremony, Maraga was photographed addressing an audience. The setting was clearly political, marked by a backdrop and podium decorated in the signature green colour of the UGM.

The podium featured the party's logo, which includes a sun and a stylized plant. It also displayed the party's name and slogan: "United Green Movement" and "Kumekucha".
The UGM identifies itself as “The Green Party that promises total Inclusivity: No one left behind”.
Rapid Financial Backing
Maraga, who had already declared his presidential aspiration, has quickly gained financial traction. His campaign website, Davidaga.com, amassed a notable sum within two days of its launch few weeks ago.
The former Chief Justice revealed that his campaign quickly raised over KSh 500,000.

These financial contributions were received from Kenyans both locally and those living in the diaspora. Some contributors in the diaspora were reportedly putting in dollars.
Maraga views this initial outpouring as a strong indicator of public support.
“I mean, within two days in Kenya, we had more than 500,000 shillings, and some of those in the diaspora are putting in dollars. That tells you that the Kenyans want change,” he stated.

A Platform Focused on Governance and Reform
According to the former chief justice, his presidential bid is rooted in a deep concern regarding the current state of governance. He seeks to address issues related to leadership and the electoral process.
He believes that citizens are weary of the status quo.
He revealed this while peaking on K24 TV few months ago. Maraga expressed immense confidence in his chances, stating that people are tired and simply want change.
A central part of his campaign agenda is reforming Kenya’s electoral system. He aims to dismantle the existing system, which he suggests is corrupted by wealth obtained through theft.
He lamented that the practice of spending billions of shillings during elections often involves money that has been stolen.
