Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba, has strongly condemned a Nakuru nightclub for a viral video showing its female bartenders dressed in school uniforms.
The video, which sparked a significant public backlash, was called out by the MP for what she terms as the "normalizing of child sexualization."
The incident involved Space Next Door, a popular club, which later issued a public apology.

The club's management claimed the video was part of a "themed night" and apologised for any negative misinterpretation.
However, the MP's response suggests the issue goes far beyond a simple misunderstandin
A "Moral Cop" Drawing the Line
In a detailed social media post, Hon. Wamuchomba, while clarifying that she is not a "moral cop," questioned where society draws the line between advertisement and morals.
She argued that using school uniforms to attract patrons in nightclubs is an appeal that crosses a dangerous boundary.
“This is a new phenomenom of normalizing child sexualization and pedophilia fantasies. I’m not a moral cop but where do we draw the line between advertisement / marketing and morals?” she questioned.

She stated that school uniforms are more than just garments

According to her, using these symbols in an adult setting like a nightclub "overlaps the moral line between children and sex objectification."
“This is giving predators a field day to mentally socialise children to pleasureand they may lead or generate to actual adventure. This indirectly sexualizes and objectifies the image of prepubescent children to sexual objects to be admired therefore justifying pedaphilia admiration which may lead to sexual exploitation and abuse.”
Fueling a "Battle Already Raging"
Hon. Wamuchomba’s criticism extended to the potential dangers of the club's actions. She suggested that the video gives predators a field day to mentally normalise the sexualisation of children. She warned that such content could lead to sexual exploitation and abuse.
Her statement also referenced Kenya's ongoing struggle with social issues, noting that in a society already battling rising cases of Incest, sexual assault and molestations, we cannot afford to play with symbols that prompt abusers to tempt our children's Naivety.

Nightclub’s Apology
Early on Sunday, the club's management released a press statement to address the video and the concerns it raised. In the statement, Space Next Door acknowledged the circulating video and the negative interpretations it had generated.
We want to clarify that at no point do we promote or endorse any of the claims being associated with this video. Our sole intention has always been to create fun engaging and respectful experiences while highlighting everyday roles in a positive and entertaining light.”
The club also offered an apology for any "negative misinterpretation" the video may have caused.
“We sincerely apologize for any negative misinterpretation that the video may have caused. We remain committed to maintaining high standards of professionalism, creativity, and community connection in everything we do.”
