The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has made a significant move to encourage more students to join technical courses.
The placement body has reopened its application portal for the September 2025 intake into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
This new application window is open from August 8 to August 22, 2025. This allows a fresh opportunity for thousands of students who may have missed the previous application period.
Why the Fee Reduction?
In a major policy shift, KUCCPS has lowered the application fee from KSh 1,500 to a more affordable KSh 500.

This is a deliberate strategy to "boost access" to post-secondary education. The move is a clear signal that the government agency is keen on ensuring more Kenyans have a chance to pursue higher education, particularly in the TVET sector.

The reduction is designed to remove a financial barrier that may have prevented many potential applicants from applying.
By making the process more affordable, KUCCPS aims to reach a wider pool of students, including those from less privileged backgrounds.
How to Apply and Who is Eligible
The application process is entirely online. Interested students can apply through the official KUCCPS student portal.
The guidelines state that KCSE holders from the years 2000 to 2024 are eligible to apply.
The minimum grade requirements for the various TVET levels are as follows:
- Diploma (Level 6): C-
- Craft Certificate (Level 5): D
- Artisan Certificate (Level 4): E

This broad range of qualifications ensures that a large number of students, regardless of their KCSE performance, can find a suitable course.

Context of KUCCPS's Mission
This new application period comes at a time when KUCCPS is also rolling out a new upgrade programme for teachers. The agency's mission is to ensure that there are no shortages of well-prepared professionals in various sectors.
The focus on TVET is particularly important as the country shifts towards a skills-based economy.
The reopening of the portal with the reduced fee reinforces KUCCPS's commitment to leaving no one behind.
