Nairobians braved the chilly Saturday weather to attend an economic empowerment forum hosted at State House. The event, which drew an estimated 15,000 attendees, saw youths enthusiastically chanting “two terms” as they made their way to the venue.
President William Ruto’s administration has been rolling out similar forums across the country, aimed at equipping Kenyans with information, opportunities, and resources for socio-economic growth.
Healthcare Access for All
Addressing the crowd, President Ruto urged Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), noting that it would enable them to receive treatment at hospitals without having to pay out of pocket.
“Jiandikishe na uandikishe familia yako ili wakiwa wagonjwa wapate matibabu bila malipo yoyote,” he said.

The Head of State further warned hospitals against engaging in fraudulent activities, adding that the government has allocated Sh13 billion to ease the financial burden of treatment for Kenyans.
Education Investments
President Ruto announced that the national and county governments are collaborating to construct additional classrooms.
“I am constructing 250 classes here, from my pocket, because I want our children to get educated, because every nation that believes in equality must invest in education,” he stated.

He emphasized that education remains a key pillar for achieving equal opportunities in society.
Youth Employment Through Climate Initiatives
The President also announced plans to employ over 40,000 youths under the Climate WorX program, aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods while addressing environmental challenges.
According to Ruto, the initiative will not only provide income but also empower young people to contribute to long-term national development.

Political Context
The forum took place against the backdrop of criticism from opposition leaders, who have accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of failing to deliver on its promises, dismissing the recent wave of empowerment forums as political gimmicks.
Nonetheless, the State House event was marked by optimism from attendees, with many expressing hope in the government’s economic empowerment agenda.
