Further roadblocks were mounted on major arteries such as Waiyaki Way, Kenyatta Avenue, Jogoo Road, Thika Road, Uhuru Highway, Valley Road, and other key feeder roads.

Police presence was stringent, allowing passage only for vehicles with emergency needs and those belonging to the government.

Pedestrians, however, were permitted to walk through the blocked sections. One police officer confirmed they were under strict instructions to deny vehicular movement.

An employee from a city hotel recounted being forced to walk from Westlands to the city centre due to the closures.

The widespread disruption led many learning institutions in towns and cities to advise students to stay at home and resume classes on Tuesday, fearing a repeat of the chaos witnessed during recent protests over police brutality and extrajudicial killings.

In anticipation of unrest, major businesses across the city were barricaded with metal grills over the weekend to deter potential looting.

A similar situation unfolded on major roads in Mombasa, where police established roadblocks in Likoni, Nyali, and Changamwe for checks.

On Waiyaki Way, buses and private vehicles travelling from upcountry were observed parked around Uthiru after police blocked the road at Kangemi, forcing some passengers to alight and seek alternative routes home.
