Popular X (formerly Twitter) influencer Eric Amerix, widely known for his controversial opinions online, has once again reignited a crucial debate on parliamentary transparency, by calling for the MPs details to be made public.

Amerix, who boasts a staggering 2.1 million followers on the platform is now vehemently advocating for all Members of Parliament (MPs) to have their active phone numbers published on the official Parliament website.

He argues that these MPs are public figures and so the citizens are entitled to have their access because theoretically, they’re their servants.

“Members of Parliament should have their active numbers published on the Parliament Website. An MP is a public officer serving the people,” Amerix argued.

Amerix also questioned why the MPs don’t see it as a big deal while campaigning as they share their phone numbers in WhatsApp groups to the would-be voters but once elected, they conceal their details including changing their phone numbers.

His impassioned call shared across his influential social media platforms, stems from a palpable frustration with what he perceives as a disconnect between elected officials and their constituents.

“They can't add us on WhatsApp during campaigns, then change numbers after they get into office. Publish their numbers,” Amerix added.

His recent engagement on X has also seen him weigh in on other sensitive national issues, notably involving Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Eliud Lagat.

Lagat’s name has been mentioned several times in the ongoing investigation into the death of Albert Ojwang’, who reportedly died in police custody after being arrested for malicious publication.

According to the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Ojwang’ was arrested for false publication about the DIG, whom Kanja confirmed was the complainant.
