Condolences Flood In As Popular Uganda DJ Bush Baby Passes Away

Veteran DJ and media pioneer Michael Benjamin Owor, popularly known as DJ Bush Baby, has been found dead in his studio in Entebbe.

His family confirmed his death on Thursday, June 5, after he vanished two days earlier. Close relatives reported that DJ Bush Baby had not been heard from or seen since Tuesday.

His lifeless body was discovered when family members forced their way into his studio premises because they were worried about his abrupt disappearance and lack of response to calls or messages.

The cause of his death is still unknown because authorities have not yet released the findings of a postmortem investigation. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

DJ Bush Baby, 50, was praised by many as a pioneer in Uganda's media and music sectors. Before expanding his influence throughout East Africa, he began his career with Radio Uganda's Green Channel, now known as Magic FM, in the late 1990s.

His next stop was Tanzania, where he worked with East African Radio and East African Television (EATV) and helped start Kiss FM.

His popular shows, such as Friday Night Live, 5 Live, and Uganda Central, helped to regionalize Ugandan music and culture, and he became well-known there as a producer and host.

DJ Bush Baby worked with a number of prestigious media outlets after returning to Uganda, such as Sanyu FM, XFM, Urban TV, and NXT Radio.

He progressed to become the head of the creative department at NXT Media. He most recently signed a contract with XRadio in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and was actively using digital platforms to maintain strong regional ties by broadcasting an online show every Thursday from Kampala.

He was injured internally and sustained a fractured pelvic bone in a serious domestic accident in 2021.

He had surgery and made a public appeal for financial support while he recovered, and fans and industry friends generously contributed to his cause.

DJ Bush Baby was admired for his dedication to empowerment and mentoring, even outside of his on-air persona.

He established Salute the DJ, a programme designed to develop up-and-coming talent in Uganda's deejay scene.

The programme helped to professionalize the industry and develop the next generation of talent by giving aspiring DJs exposure, training, and mentorship.

People from all over the region have expressed their sorrow and paid tribute to him since learning of his passing.

On social media, fans, coworkers, and artists have paid tribute to him for his contributions to the music industry as well as his humility, generosity, and enduring influence as a mentor.

Funeral plans have not yet been revealed by the family as the industry grieves the loss of a real legend.
