Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is set for a major political offensive in the Coast region, featuring a high-profile roadshow from Mombasa Road to the coastal city.

The Star has established that the tour – the first since the Tseikuru declaration – will begin with roadshows where the former Vice President will make several stops to address Kenyans along the way to Mombasa.

“Kalonzo Musyoka has organised rallies along Mombasa Road all the way to Mombasa on Friday and Saturday by road, then a Sunday service in Kilifi,” a communication shared among Wiper leaders read.

During the three-day tour, Kalonzo's team will visit two counties: Mombasa and Kilifi.

His itinerary includes stopovers in grassroots trading centres where he is set to address the public and engage with boda boda riders, traders and youth groups.

Some of the towns where Kalonzo is expected to address rallies include Mariakani and Mtito Andei, culminating in a major rally in Voi town.

The move is seen as strategic for Wiper, which is undergoing a complete rebranding to consolidate its support base and gauge public sentiment ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kalonzo is expected to use the tour to popularise his national unity agenda and address issues of land injustices, youth unemployment and economic marginalisation in the Coast region.

His messaging will also include a strong pitch for a united opposition as the best option to take over and restore the country in the coming elections.

The former Vice President will be accompanied by party officials and Wiper elected leaders.

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi – a close Kalonzo ally – confirmed the planned trip saying it is part of the strategy to reach out Kenyans ahead of 2027.

“Yes, the plans are on, and we shall be engaging Kenyans on why we are the best option to take over power in 2027,” Mwangangi said.

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo described the Coast crusade as a demonstration of Kalonzo’s growing influence and commitment to listen to the plight of neglected regions.

Kalonzo’s ramped-up campaigns come hot on the heels of his party’s rebrand to give it a national outlook ahead of the 2027 elections.

The overhaul has seen Kalonzo’s party adopt a new identity – the Wiper Patriotic Front—as it launches an ambitious re-strategising effort to position him for 2027.

Other notable changes include increasing the number of deputy party leader positions from two to four, to enhance regional representation and accommodate special interest groups, including youth, women and minorities.

The party has also assembled a team of policy and strategy experts, dubbed the "presidential team," tasked with developing a comprehensive campaign master plan.

Despite his credentials, Kalonzo faces stiff competition in the race to become the opposition coalition’s presidential flagbearer.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i are viewed as strong challengers.
