The Chief of the Ugandan Armed Forces, UPDF, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced a ban on female soldiers wearing trousers.

Through his X page, the vocal son of Uganda’s long-serving president, Yoweri Museveni, made it clear that all female soldiers will now wear military skirts instead of trousers.

Muhoozi also issued a stern warning against anyone who might come forward and change the order of instructing female soldiers to stop wearing trousers, saying that anyone who changes his order will have a very bad day.

“All female comrades in the UPDF shall from now on march in skirts. Trousers are for men, not for women. Anyone who forces our sisters to put on trousers on parade again will have a very bad day,” Muhoozi Kainerugaba tweeted.

Kainerugaba, who has been at the forefront of defending the actions of his UPDF soldiers through his tweets, also threatened to expel from Uganda all foreign nationals who are seen to oppose his father in the upcoming general elections.

He pointed out the delegation of the European Union in Uganda and threatened to sanction them if they continue been seen to be close to opposition leaders, adding that his father has given a nod to it.

“In this coming election, the Bazungu in our country who do not support Mzee wholeheartedly, better be very careful! We will deport all the traitors in public view!! I have spoken to Mzee, he will announce our SANCTIONS against the @EUinUG. They will pay for their cavalier attitude towards our country,” Muhoozi fiercely threatened.

Muhoozi further warned the delegation of the European Union in Uganda against being seen to be close to the opposition leader, Bobi Wine, saying that doing so would be tantamount to publicly opposing his father and would result in being mercilessly expelled.

“This is an Abomination! @EUinUG is playing with fire. Sawa!” he said, tagging a photo of some members of the EU shaking hands with Bobi Wine. “We have MARKED all of them, especially the one shaking Kabobi's hand,” he added.

Uganda is heading to general elections in January next year, and Muhoozi's hint means that Museveni may run for president once again.

This is despite Museveni having previously given mixed signals about his candidacy in the 2026 elections, with one indicating that he may not run for president again, and on the other saying that the people are crying out for him, that he is young and still has the strength to continue leading the nation.

Museveni has vied for the presidency and been re-elected a total of six times. He has been in office since 1986, with his most recent re-election in 2021, securing a sixth term.

Under President Museveni and his son at the helm of Uganda’s army, the country’s human rights record has been questionable many times, especially with the way the military and police act with force on those seen to oppose the NRM government.
