Kenya’s diversity agenda must recognise the country’s cultural differences, including languages, beliefs and traditions, says Gerald Alwanga of the State Department for Culture. Speaking at a diversity benchmarking session at AFRALTI in Nairobi, Alwanga said cultural diversity extends beyond festivals to include values, communication and belief systems. He urged institutions to consider communities’ cultural backgrounds when designing policies and delivering services, warning that language barriers can limit access to information and public participation.
