Gospel singer Mercy Masika has stirred a lively debate online with her new “Becoming a Wife” masterclass. The course is meant to help women build Christian marriages.
Supporters see a chance to learn about marriage. Critics say the focus should not fall on women alone.
What she said
Masika announced the masterclass in an Instagram post, describing it as a programme for women who want to build lasting Christian marriages.
“This is for every woman who believes marriage shouldn’t be miserable, who wants to get it right and trusts that God’s way is best,” she wrote in the caption.
She added that women would not regret following God’s plan for marriage.
“You’ll never regret choosing His design.”
Not a new message
Marriage is not a new subject for Masika. The singer has spoken about it in interviews and on social media for years.
She married David Muguro in 2008. The two met in 2007, when she performed at a wedding reception where he was working as the videographer. They married in 2008 after a year of courtship, and Muguro also works as her manager.

In 2020, she marked 12 years of marriage and said love alone does not keep couples together.
“It’s not about love but wisdom, knowledge and understanding.”
She urged people to study marriage before entering it. She also warned that the polished pictures couples post on social media often hide what is really happening at home.
